The Spotted Pig, co-owned by Jay Z, Bono & Mario Batali, is a restaurant hotspot in the heart of Meatpacking district in New York City. With waits that can be long as two to three hours for a table and a very unique menu, I assumed my experience there was going to be very positive. And if Jay- Z co-owns it, then DUH!, it has to be amazing right?! lol. The place is definitely super eclectic with “quirky” decor, and has a very cozy feeling, but the food was not out of this world by any means. The Spotted Pig is famous for their burger which I’ve heard so much about, but I actually did not like it. Read my reviews on what we ordered below:
THE SPOTTED PIG DECOR
DEVILED EGGS
Not a huge deviled eggs fan myself, but these were the best I’ve ever had. Great flavor, and the filling was fluffy and light. I recommend this.
CHICKEN LIVER TOAST
I liked this too! Very rich flavor, and the liver was super creamy and delicious. Obviously liver is an acquired taste but if you like it, I guarantee you will enjoy this!
SHOESTRING FRIES
These fries were amazing. So much flavor and lots of garlic too. Definitely recommend!
FRESH BAKED BISCUIT W/ HONEY BUTTER
I mean, there is nothing I can say bad about a fresh warm biscuit right out the oven with honey butter. Guaranteed deliciousness!
CHARGRILLED BURGER W/ ROQUEFORT CHEESE & SHOESTRING FRIES
First of all I don’t like bleu cheese. Roquefort is even stronger and stinkier. It over powered the burger. The meat was good but not amazing. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to order this, I saw so many of them coming out the kitchen, and I just don’t understand the hype. Burgers are my specialty and this is not even close to my Top 10. (sorry!)
DUTCH BABY W/ HOUSE SMOKED BACON & MAPLE SYRUP
I ordered this. It’s so thin and airy. It’s like a crispy, thin pancake. I likedd the sweetness of the syrup with the saltiness of the bacon. It was good but wouldn’t order it again. Nothing special.
SPOTTED PIG FRY-UP (SPECIAL OF THE DAY)
FRENCH TOAST W/ BANANAS & BOURBON SYRUP
Now, this was amazing! One of the best french toasts I’ve ever had. The flavor was sweet with a hint of cinnamon. Loved the bananas with it and the bourbon syrup was amazeballs. Highly recommend!
GRILLED CHEESE W/ ONION MARMALADE & MUSTARD
This and the french toast were my two favorite things of what was ordered at Spotted Pig. The bread was buttery and crispy. Ham was added to this too. The bread was cheese-crusted too. So bomb. Highly recommend!
DEEP FRIED POACHED EGGS W/ CHORIZO STEW
My friend ordered this and I tried a little. I liked! The fried poached eggs were interesting, I liked the texture of the crispiness and creaminess. The chorizo had a sweet taste to it, but still had the spice. All in all a unique dish that is worth trying.
The Spotted Pig was an experience. We had to wait two hours for our table, and for the two hour wait, I don’t think it was worth it. It was so hyped up so I was excited to try, but I was a little disappointed. I am glad I went though, and maybe if there was no wait I’d give it another try.
