TRINIDAD CARNIVAL 2019

Another Carnival for the books! This was my 2nd year doing Carnival in Trinidad. I have only done Carnival in Jamaica and Trinidad (Brazil is still on my bucket list), but I love going to the one in Trinidad.  I love everything about Carnival. The music, the dancing, the culture- it’s an event that brings people together no matter where you’re from with good vibes all around. This year I had so much fun. I played with Harts both years because I love their costumes and the energy of their band, I’ve met so many amazing people in the past two years. This year I brought my good friend Racquel with me and we had a blast. I wrote a blog post on my first Carnival experience in Trinidad here, with lots of general info you need to know for your first time. I got so many more questions on logistics this year for attending Carnival, and how much it costs and where I got my costume etc. You can read my first blog post …

CARNIVAL 2018, TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

I told myself I would go to Carnival the following year either in Trinidad or Brazil. I ended up choosing Trinidad because my friends who go every year told me I should start there first before going to Brazil. I knew nothing about Carnival in Trinidad, so when my friend started asking me all these questions like “Are you playing Mas? What band are you playing with?” I had no clue what he was talking about. Apparently there is Carnival lingo I had to learn before making a fool of myself before I got there lol. I quickly learned that Carnival in Trinidad was completely different than Carnival in Jamaica. CHOOSING A BAND: The right way to do Carnival is to join a band. There are a bunch of different bands to choose from, and let’s be honest, the most important thing about Carnival besides the dancing and the music is the costume. …

CARNIVAL IN JAMAICA

I got invited by the Jamaica Board of Tourism to experience Carnival in Jamaica. I have always wanted to go to Carnival in Brazil and Trinidad & Tabago, so was really excited to go to experience it for the first time. I had been to Jamaica twice before, both when I was younger and with my family. I remember a few specific instances on both trips where I felt a little unsafe and uncomfortable, but totally went this time excited and with an open mind. I ended up having a great time, but there are some things you need to know about Jamaica before deciding to book a trip there. I got so many messages and comments from people seeing my pictures and videos from Jamaica, telling me they want to go there because of my pictures and how I made it look. First of all, Jamaica is beautiful, so it’s not hard to take pretty pictures there. But, it is also my job to make places look way better than they actually are, or …
